What we do up there
Most jobs around the bay are one of two things: a roof that has gone dull and mossy and needs bringing back, or a roof that is letting water in. We do both, and everything in between.
Roof painting
Tile or Colorbond. We use the ShieldCoat system, rolled and sprayed to get an even finish right across the roof rather than a patchy one.
Roof repairs
Leaks, cracked and slipped tiles, rusted sheets, flashings that have given up. If something is letting water in, we will find it and fix it.
Full roof rescrew
Old roof screws rust out long before the sheets do, and every one of them is a hole in your roof. We pull the lot and put new ones in.
High pressure cleaning
Moss, lichen and years of salt air and debris off the roof. On plenty of homes around the bay a clean alone makes an enormous difference.
Gutters and guttering
Gutter cleaning as part of a roof job or on its own, and new guttering fitted where the old run is rusted through or sagging.
New roof sheets
Re-sheeting where a section is past repairing, matched to what is already up there so the new work does not stand out from the ground.
Repointing and new tiles
Ridge capping repointed and cracked or broken tiles swapped out. The bits that go first on an older tile roof, and the cheapest thing to stay on top of.
Roof vents and whirlybirds
Fitted and flashed in properly. Gets the heat out of the roof space through a Port Stephens summer instead of letting it sit there.

Rusted screws are holes in your roof
On a Colorbond roof near the water, the screws almost always go before the sheets do. Salt air eats the washers, the heads corrode, and every one of them turns into a small opening sitting right at the high point of your roof.
A full rescrew means pulling every old screw out and putting a new one in, not just chasing the ones that have obviously failed. It is not glamorous work and most roof painters would rather not talk about it, but on a coastal roof it is often the single thing that buys you another decade.

Get the heat out of the roof space
A roof space in a Port Stephens summer sits well above the temperature of the rooms underneath it, and all that heat has to go somewhere. Whirlybirds and roof vents are a small job on their own, and a very small one added to a restoration that is already booked in.
Fitted and flashed in properly, so the thing that is supposed to keep water out does not become the reason it gets in.
Prep is most of the job. Everything that is not getting painted goes under a sheet first.
Harley, and a crew who turn up
Priceys Roof Painting is Harley Price. He started out on his own in September 2023 working roofs around Port Stephens, and the business has grown into a company with a crew behind it since. The name comes from what everyone already called him.
The thing customers keep writing about is not the paint. It is that the crew arrives on the day they said, works through it, and tells you where things are up to as they go. One reviewer had forty year old tiles and a long list of problems, and still described the job as handled with ease.
Roofs get coated with the ShieldCoat system. Days start at five in the morning through summer, seven days a week, because that is when a roof is actually workable on this coast.
